Ever drop or step on your laptop by accident? If so, you probably broke the fragile LCD screen and figured that it was the end of your laptop’s life.

I found this nice little tip that explains how to fix your own LCD screen. The DIY instructions are for an Apple iBook, but I’m sure other laptops are put together in a similar fashion.

Behance Action Pad Organizes Your Notes

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

I hate taking notes because when I do, they end up being so horribly disorganized, that I wonder why I even took notes in the first place. During meetings, I tend to scribble ideas all over the place, and apparently so does the Behance team, but they decided to remedy the situation with the Action Pad ($8).

Based on the Action Method, the pad features four distinct zones on each page to provide a flexible template to get the most out of meetings and everyday brainstorm sessions

“The Action Method was designed to help us push projects forward by organizing our ideas and focusing on action steps.”

Loyal users of the Action Pad include design studios, freelance fashion designers, advertising executives, and entrepreneurs. Sure, we could draw our own lines, but we all know how that’ll turn out!

If you haven’t realized by now, you can now catch 14 of ABC’s most popular titles like Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers Sisters, Ugly Betty, October Road and the Bachelor for free on ABC.com. ABC.com has been great at streaming full versions of its shows online after they’ve aired on TV.

What’s even better now, is that ABC.com has set itself apart from other TV networks, by offering a new full-screen, “HD-quality” video player. I was trying to catch up with the last episodes of Lost I missed and I swear it never looked so good online. Plus with “limited commercial interruptions,” it’s almost better than watching it live!

Farboud GTS

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

farboud_gts

The Farboud GTS is an evolution of the GT, a car that is not only powerful and spectacular to the eye but could also be driven everyday encompassing all the pleasures of driving a sports car.

The thought process when developing the GTS included a powerful engine, lightweight high-tech construction of chassis and body, lightweight race type seating, powerful brakes, efficient aerodynamics and cooling all wrapped in an aggressive and beautiful styled body. Combine this with easy door entry, limited overhangs, good all round visability and you get the Farboud GTS.

The GTS uses a 580 hp lightweight water-cooled unit linked to twin turbochargers to force induct combustion. Internally the engine uses the finest quality materials. The V6 is efficient at low speeds where the turbo chargers are not used, however strong horsepower output and torque come into play when the turbochargers phase in.

Turbo lag is reduced in the GTS by shortening the distance of the exhaust manifold to the turbocharger. This allows ’spooling up’ of the turbo fan to be achieved quicker and hence allowing the speedier forced induction into the compression chamber. Advances in turbo bearings further improve turbo lag.

The position of the engine has been conciously put in the ‘F1′ style position. This mid engine configuration allows for a central weight load in the car for excellent handling. Performance is further improved for handling by a low set engine postition. The gearbox is set longitudinal for improved weight distribution.

The chassis is an aluminum tub with a steel rail cradle. An aluminum honeycomb center tub is used for further stiffness as in most modern day racing cars. The steel system has been designed to run the full length of the car to provide maximum rigidity and minimum weight. Rigidity is achieved by 2 rails and many triangulations. The engine is set in a triangular steel bay set on rubber bushings to avoid passenger cockpit vibration.

The GTS is constructed from Advanced Composites Z-preg carbon fiber. These composites are further strengthened with Kevlar and honeycomb sheets.

The GTS achieves CD results of 0.36 and 0.37. All ground effect devices have been proven in the wind tunnel, including the rear diffuser and the front splitter. Many hours of wind tunnel testing and CFD testing have resulted in the efficient and beautiful styling of the GTS.

The interior of the GTS includes the use of carbon fiber, leather and aluminum. These materials are true to their nature as being stylish, attractive, and lightweight. The interior of the car follows the same these as the outside of the car, with flowing lines and simplicity; beauty as well as aggressive racing touches.

Air conditioning and stereo are standard equipment for maximum driver enjoyment. Traction control and power settings are found on the steering wheel for quick and easy setting.

Sony today announced the world’s smallest and lightest high definition consumer camcorder with full HD resolution based on HDV 1080i.

The ultra-compact HDR-HC1 Handycam® camcorder fits comfortably in your hand, while delivering high-definition picture quality and lighting detail on both video and digital still images.

This camcorder’s introduction is in response to the growing demand for HDTV. With more broadcasters transmitting high-definition content, the demand for HD has been steadily increasing. In fact, the Consumer Electronics Association estimates that nearly 15 million HDTV sets will be in US households by the end of 2005.

“As HDTV becomes more pervasive in American households, it is a natural progression to want to create personal content in high definition,” said Linda Vuolo, director for camcorder products at Sony Electronics. “This introduction is a key step in bringing high-definition video recording to a broad cross-section of consumers. For about $2,000, there is now an easy-to-use solution.”

The new VW Passat was designed to become the most comfortable Passat ever. With this new luxury class limousine Volkswagen is bound to set new standards. The Bavarian company Abt Sportsline which enjoys a long tradition is also following this philosophy. A leading tuner for all makes of the VW-group already has concrete ideas what the new Abt-style VW Passat will look like.

Before long Abt Sportsline will be offering a discreet but nevertheless sporty-looking front spoiler lip as well as a rear spoiler for the VW Passat. When constructing the aerodynamic parts, great importance was attached to creating harmonious optical characteristics. The result is a sporty but not obtrusive appearance.

Additionally Abt Sportsline will be offering the five-spoke light alloy wheel SP for the new Passat. The one-piece cast aluminum wheel highlights the sporty and elegant appearance of the Abt model.

Moreover, a complete Abt Sportsline suspension kit is currently being developed. Besides lowering the vehicle, the goal is to increase driving dynamics, as well. When it comes to matching work, the Abt engineers keep their focus on the balance between sportiness and close-to-production everyday comfort.

Maybach Exelero

The Maybach high-performance show car “Exelero” was unveiled to the world for the first time this afternoon in the Tempodrom in Berlin. The 700-hp two-seater with a V-12 biturbo engine is a unique custom model produced for Fulda Reifenwerke, which is using the Maybach Exelero as a reference vehicle for a newly developed generation of wide tyres. The German manufacturer of luxury cars built the unique model as a modern interpretation of its legendary streamlined sports car from the 1930s, thereby forging a link with the historical predecessor, which at that time was likewise based on a powerful Maybach automobile (SW 38) and used by Fulda for tyre tests.

The Exelero embodies the highest expression to date of the Maybach individualisation strategy of offering specific custom solutions on request. In initial tests on the high-speed track in Nardo (Italy), the unique vehicle reached a top speed of 351.45 km/h (FIA*-standard unit of measurement). Developers at Maybach designed the custom model with the participation of students from Pforzheim College. The Exelero was built by the prototype specialists at Stola in Turin (Italy). There are no plans to produce the model in series.
