Apple iPod Touch

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

ipod_touch

Don’t need a new phone, but you love the interface and form factor of the Apple iPhone? No need to fret, because Steve Jobs just announced the release of the Apple iPod Touch.

Available is just a few weeks, the iPod Touch (starting at $299) will come in 8GB and 16GB models, and is basically a phoneless iPhone. That means you still get the same cool motion-sensing screen turning, multi-touch interface, WiFI, Safara web browser, and other sweet iPhone features without having to sign your life over to AT&T.

Palm teaser hints at early Centro launch for Europe

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

which-palm-centro-is-this

We can’t be certain what Palm’s playing at with this teaser brochure on its website: either it’s talking about the launch of a European marketing campaign for the Centro on September 12th, or Palm’s managed to pull a fast one and is ready to launch the Centro (or another unseen phone) in the next two weeks. We’re guessing the former, but at least this promotion tells us something about this phone, Centro or not: the first people to get their hands on one will be European. Check out the website, and if you live in The Netherlands, the UK, Germany, or Italy, enter your details to potentially win not one, but five Palm smartphones.

Debunk: really bad iPod mockups abound

ipod-nano-photoshop

This is what passes for an iPod hoax these days? You may have seen the latest round of new iPod nano photos floating around the internets, but even if you wanted to ignore the fact that they look severely photoshopped (and we mean severely — see the original hand outline?), you can’t really ignore the fact that they seemed to show up first on the Flickr stream of a dude that seems to do little more than Apple product concept designs. Judge for yourself, but even though this may be what the next nano winds up looking like, we’d bet these aren’t the first leaked shots of it.

Venetian Gambles on Macao

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

venetian_macao

Everyone knows about Hong Kong, being the major international city that it is, but have you heard of Macao? Just a short thirty minute boat ride away, Macao is fast becoming the new Las Vegas, or that’s what U.S. investors like the Las Vegas Sands Corp. is betting on.

On Tuesday, the $2.4 billion Venetian Macao Resort opened it’s doors to give Sin City a run for its money. Let me see if I can describe the mass of this new beast.

With 3000 suites, 1.2 million square feet of convention space, 1.6 million square feet of retail, and 550,000 square feet of casino space, the Venetian Macao has more floor space than four Empire State Buildings. The hotel’s 3400 slot machines, 870 gambling tables and other games of chance sprawl across the casino more than three times the size of the largest casino in Las Vegas. All of this is encircled by 350 luxury shops spanning 1.6 million square feet of retail, more than any Hong Kong mall. A 15,000 seat arena for entertainment and sports events is nearly the size of Madison Square Garden.

And the Venetian Macao wouldn’t be a Venetian without three indoor canals with singing gondoliers; the Venetian Las Vegas has only one.

To mark the opening, Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson and his wife smashed a bottle of champagne against the prow of a black gondola, steered by a gondolier through a faux-Venetian streetscape.

“I know what I’m doing. We’ve already done this in Vegas. There is no question about this,” he said in an interview before the opening.

Surrounded by the casino’s grand Italian architecture, with marble floors, high arched roofs, frescoes, fountains and gold statues, Adelson said: “All we’re doing is taking the fully matured, completely evolved capital of entertainment called Las Vegas, and picking it up and dropping it here.”

The Venetian Macuo is offering an initial rate of $140 a night for a 650-square-foot suite, so you better book fast before prices skyrocket, and believe me they will!

Wild Bunch & Co. Juices

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

wildbunch

Organic Vegetable Juice company Wild Bunch & Co. has created a healthy new range of invigorating juices to help work-harried executives missing meals get the energy they need quickly: 100% organic fresh vegetable juice delivered straight to their office.

What I love most about Wild Bunch & Co besides the health benefits is their exquisite packaging that was designed by Seed Creative in the U.K. With so much competition in the boutique juice industry, it definitely pays to stand out.
